Novum Infant Program

Our Infant Program is grounded in the Montessori Method belief of following the child—a principle that begins from the very first months of life. Even our youngest students are viewed as capable individuals with their own rhythms, needs, and ways of exploring the world.

At Novum we prioritize responsive caregiving to support healthy development and secure attachment. By closely observing each baby and responding with warmth and consistency, our caregivers build trusting relationships that help infants feel safe, understood, and confident as they grow.

Our program is designed around your baby’s individual needs, rather than a one-size-fits-all schedule. We work in partnership with families to support routines that feel familiar and comforting. This includes:

  • Tailored sleep schedules

  • Individualized feeding times

  • Responsive play and exploration

  • Calm, nurturing care during transitions

Throughout the day, caregivers observe and respond to your child’s cues—whether they need rest, nourishment, movement, or connection. By honoring each infant’s natural rhythm, we create a peaceful environment where babies can develop trust, independence, and a lifelong love of learning from the very beginning.

The Prepared Environment for Infants

Our infant room is carefully designed to support each stage of early development. Soft floor spaces allow babies to move freely—stretching, rolling, crawling, and eventually pulling up and cruising as their strength and coordination grow. Rather than using restrictive equipment, we encourage freedom of movement, allowing infants to develop naturally at their own pace. Simple, purposeful materials such as grasping toys, mirrors, and sensory objects are thoughtfully placed within reach to invite exploration and discovery.

Language and connection are woven throughout the day. Caregivers talk, sing, and read to babies, describing actions and naming objects to support early communication. Everyday routines like feeding, diapering, and rest are treated as meaningful one-on-one moments of care, helping babies feel secure and understood. By honoring each child’s individual rhythms with flexible sleep schedules, feedings, and play times, we create a calm and nurturing environment where infants can grow with confidence during this important first stage of life.

Preparing for the Toddler Program

As babies grow and approach the toddler stage, we thoughtfully support their transition into the toddler community. Guided by the principles of the Montessori Method, we gradually introduce experiences that encourage independence, confidence, and emerging communication skills.

During the later months of the infant program, children are given opportunities to practice important skills they will use in the toddler environment. This includes pulling up, cruising, and eventually walking, as well as beginning to feed themselves, drink from small cups, and participate in simple routines. Teachers also continue to support language development by naming objects, describing actions, and encouraging early communication so children can begin expressing their needs and interests.

We also begin introducing simple expectations and gentle routines that help toddlers feel confident in a group setting—such as sitting for short songs or stories, exploring materials independently, and participating in clean-up with guidance. By supporting these growing abilities and maintaining strong relationships, we ensure that each child moves to the toddler room when they are developmentally ready and comfortable, making the transition a natural and positive step in their Montessori journey.
