Novum Primary Program

The Novum Academy Montessori Primary Program serves children ages 3 to 6 and is designed to foster independence, concentration, and a lifelong love of learning. In this classroom, children engage in self-directed work using authentic Montessori materials across six core subject areas: Practical Life, Sensorial, Mathematics, Language, Cultural Studies, and Art, Music, and Movement. Each area is carefully integrated into the environment to encourage exploration, creativity, and problem-solving, helping children develop confidence and a sense of responsibility.

Guides observe and support each child individually, offering guidance when needed while allowing children to make choices and follow their interests. Practical Life activities build self-care, coordination, and responsibility; Sensorial work sharpens observation and critical thinking; Mathematics and Language lessons provide hands-on foundations for numeracy and literacy; Cultural Studies introduce geography, science, and history; and Art, Music, and Movement foster creative expression and physical development. By engaging with all six areas, children cultivate a balanced foundation for learning, social-emotional growth, and a lifelong love of discovery.

The Prepared Environment for Primary

The Primary classroom is carefully arranged according to Montessori principles, with child-sized furniture, low shelves, and thoughtfully selected materials within easy reach. Activities are purposeful and developmentally appropriate, supporting concentration, coordination, independence, and collaboration.

Children are encouraged to move freely, choose their work, and follow their individual interests, fostering self-direction and engagement. Areas for practical life, sensorial work, math, language, geography, science, and cultural exploration are balanced with spaces for quiet reflection and group work. Materials are beautiful, intentional, and engaging, inviting children to choose, work with, and return each item responsibly.

As children become more familiar with Montessori routines and classroom expectations, the environment nurtures curiosity, independence, and confidence while fostering a sense of order, responsibility, and respect for the classroom community.

Preparing for the Transitional Kindergarten Program

As children approach the end of the Primary program, guides focus on preparing them for Novum Academy’s Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program or, if they transition to another school, the next stage of their education by supporting greater independence, problem-solving, and collaborative skills. Children continue to practice self-care, care of the environment, and social interactions while deepening their knowledge in math, language, and cultural studies.

Group projects, grace and courtesy lessons, and community responsibilities help children develop cooperation, leadership, and confidence. Even for students who will continue with us into TK, our goal is to ensure they feel prepared, confident, and excited for the next stage of their learning journey.

By strengthening these abilities in a supportive and thoughtfully prepared environment, children transition smoothly into TK, ready to continue their exploration and self-directed learning.
