Novum TK and Lower Elementary

Six joyful children running together with backpacks.

The Transitional Kindergarten and Lower Elementary program at Novum Academy serves children ages 5 through 9 in a nurturing multi-age classroom where each child is supported according to their individual stage of development.

Rooted in Montessori philosophy and enhanced with a structured, standards-aligned curriculum, the program encourages students to become independent learners, thoughtful problem-solvers, and confident leaders. Through hands-on exploration in language, mathematics, science, cultural studies, and practical life, children develop strong academic skills while cultivating curiosity, collaboration, creativity, and a genuine love of learning. Guides provide personalized support and purposeful challenges, ensuring every student continues to grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

The Prepared Environment

The Transitional Kindergarten and Lower Elementary classroom is thoughtfully designed to support the developmental and academic needs of children ages 5 through 9 in a collaborative, multi-age environment. Child-sized furnishings, accessible learning materials, and carefully prepared workspaces encourage independence, responsibility, and self-directed learning.

Students are empowered to move freely, choose meaningful work, and progress at their own pace while engaging in activities that strengthen concentration, critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving. Learning areas include language, mathematics, science, cultural studies, practical life, geography, and hands-on exploration, complemented by spaces for independent reflection, small-group instruction, and collaborative projects.

Guided by Montessori principles and aligned with Texas academic standards, the curriculum provides individualized instruction that challenges each student at their level while fostering a love of learning. The classroom environment nurtures curiosity, confidence, leadership, and respect for others, preparing students for continued success in both Montessori and traditional educational settings.

Preparing for Upper Elementary

As students progress through the Transitional Kindergarten and Lower Elementary program, guides support each child's growth through individualized instruction that fosters increasing independence, self-regulation, and academic achievement. Students continue to develop responsibility through self-care, care of the environment, and respectful collaboration while strengthening literacy, mathematics, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

A balance of independent work, small-group lessons, collaborative projects, and hands-on exploration encourages leadership, creativity, communication, and confidence. Because children learn in a multi-age classroom, they benefit from both mentoring younger peers and learning from older classmates, building a strong sense of community and responsibility. Whether students continue their Montessori journey at Novum Academy or transition to another educational setting, they leave with the academic foundation, independence, and confidence needed to thrive in the next stage of their education.
